A system for recycling plastics into fuel oil wins the 10th edition of Startup Programme Spain

The final of the 10th edition of the Startup Programme, organized by Junior Achievement Foundation and University-Enterprise Foundation, recognizes the work of 13 startups driven by students from higher education institutions, among which Biofy (technology to convert plastic into fuel oil), Fundeen (crowdfunding for renewable energy projects) and Blotick (blockchain for ticket management) stood out.

This is a European initiative in which entrepreneurship, innovation and teamwork combine their benefits to give life to interesting business proposals in areas as diverse as social integration, environmental sustainability, music and art, and, of course, digital platforms and online services. To build their inspiring companies, the young people – students from Spanish universities, both public and private – have the mentorship of professionals from the sector who volunteer for this, as well as support from collaborating companies including Visa, PwC, Ascri, Madrid City Council, Madrid Scientific Park Foundation or the Rafael del Pino Foundation.

The reward for so much work, lasting about a year? Competing in the European final of this initiative against teams from other neighboring countries and gaining access to support programs from collaborating entities (such as a physical workspace in the PCM Foundation or working with the innovation hubs of different companies). And, of course, the satisfaction of a job well done.

Landing on the 2018 edition of the Startup Programme, a total of 13 startups created in university environments have been presented for these awards, from which the jury (which included INNOVADORES) has chosen three best projects: Biofy, Fundeen and Blotick. Despite the extremely high level shown by all the proposals, which made the selection process notably difficult, ultimately the Biofy group will represent Spain in the European event of these awards.
