The Ministry of Science, Universities and Innovation of the Community of Madrid awarded this Saturday, October 26, the Fermina Orduña Prize for Technological Innovation in the category of Young Innovators to Angelo Gámez, researcher at the Research Institute of La Paz University Hospital and founding partner and CEO of Biomedica Molecular Medicine, a company associated with the Madrid Scientific Park Foundation since 2014.
In this 2019 edition, the awards have focused on technological activities in the areas of Life Sciences and Health, Biotechnology, Biomedicine, eHealth and Biomedical Engineering, and the evaluation of candidates was carried out by a jury composed of renowned professionals from the innovative ecosystem of the Community of Madrid.
This award recognizes the scientific work, achievements, and innovative trajectory of those who have significantly contributed to and promoted technological innovation in Madrid’s productive, social, and business fabric. In the case of Angelo Gámez, the jury emphasized that “his activity in the field of research has led to the publication of numerous articles and awards.” As a scientist and biomedical entrepreneur, primarily in the field of oncology, this researcher’s main objective is to achieve stratified and personalized medicine, which involves integrating clinical and molecular information to achieve individualized treatments for each patient.
Biomedica Molecular Medicine is composed of a multidisciplinary team of researchers, doctors, and mathematicians who design molecular tools for clinical practice. Its mission is:
- Specialization in the proliferation of biological sample processing techniques and the complexity of data management.
- Complementing all phases of a project (initial approach, presentation, processing of biological samples – frozen or paraffin-embedded samples, blood, liquid biopsy -, analysis and interpretation of results).
- Providing access to state-of-the-art equipment to work in all areas of molecular biology (NGS, genomics, microRNAs, proteomics, and metabolomics).
