Madrid, February 16.
On January 14, the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (Ciemat) and its spin-off Cyclomed Technologies S.L., based at the Madrid Science Park, signed a collaboration agreement for an Industrial Doctorates project of the Community of Madrid. The project’s objective is to promote the creation of a next-generation particle accelerator (cyclotron). This device will have a reduced size and will be able to synthesize radiopharmaceuticals in situ and on demand, ideal for nuclear medicine in hospitals with limited space.

Carlos Alejaldre, General Director of Ciemat, and José Manuel Pérez Morales, CEO of Cyclomed, attended the signing of the agreement. The project will be carried out within the framework of the Call for Grants for the Hiring of Industrial Doctorates of the Community of Madrid of 2020. According to this agreement, the doctoral student Carlos Hernando will be hired by Cyclomed to develop the selected project under the guidance of Javier Munilla and the supervision of Luis García, both from Ciemat’s Electrical Engineering Division and partners of the company. Additionally, the doctoral student will have the support of part of the Cyclomed team: Carlos Langeber, Business Development Director, and Natalia Benito, Project Manager intern, who will ensure that the advances generated by the project remain aligned with Cyclomed’s strategic interests.

Cyclomed is a start-up created in 2019 and promoted by Ciemat and the industrial company Antec that develops technologies based on superconductors and low temperatures (cryogenics). Despite its young age, it has received investment from the Mind the Gap program of the Botín Foundation. Cyclomed also has the strategic support of entities such as Chasing Science, the Carlos III University of Madrid, the FPCM, and the Foundation for Knowledge Madri+d.

Ciemat is a Public Research Organization attached to the Ministry of Science and Innovation through the General Secretariat of Research, mainly focused on the areas of energy and the environment and the technological fields related to both. It occupies an intermediate position in the chain that goes from the creation of basic knowledge to industrial application, so that its scope of activity always seeks to serve as a bridge between R and objectives of social interest. It is also a trustee of the FPCM.
