The ESA BIC (European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre) initiative in the Community of Madrid, of which the Madrid Science Park Foundation (FPCM) is a part, in El Referente.

Madrid, February 17, 2021. The ESA BIC Madrid Region decentralized incubation initiative, in which the FPCM participates, was the subject of an interesting article on February 10 in the magazine El Referente, a leader in information on start-ups and innovation in Spain. The ESA BIC project supports the creation of start-ups and spin-offs that take advantage of the knowledge and technology developed at the European Space Agency (ESA) through their incubation in science and technology parks in different regions of the European Union.

In the Community of Madrid, ESA BIC is coordinated by the Madri+d Foundation for Knowledge and is co-financed by ESA itself and the Ministry of Economy, Employment and Competitiveness of the Community of Madrid. The FPCM (with its patrons UAM, UCM, Ciemat, CSIC and Madrid City Council), the UC3M, UPM and URJC science parks, the Galileo and GSCM control centers of INTA, the COIT and the Madrid Aerospace Cluster participate in this project.

The FPCM currently has seven companies incubated through ESA BIC. Auravant uses satellite imagery for growers and agronomists to get the most out of their fields with precision agriculture. Detektia controls and monitors deformations in dams, infrastructures, aquifers and entire cities from space. Hovering Solutions uses drones to monitor and map the subsoil (mines, tunnels…) and the interior of structures. Ixoriguè Technologies sensorises and connects the Spanish livestock herd to the Internet to enable the digital transformation of livestock farming. Ommatidia Lidar obtains highly accurate 3D images using an improved LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) remote sensing system. Quasar SR offers new approaches in ICT management, development and consulting of Software and Systems Engineering. Finally, SmartHAPS develops stratospheric high-altitude balloons (HAPS: High Altitude Pseudo-Satellites) to monitor and take measurements.
