  • Natac, a company based at the Madrid Science Park Foundation, has been selected by the European Commission to receive funding in the latest round of the SME Instrument call under the H2020 program.

  • The AQUOLIVE project, with a budget of €2.5 million, has the main objective of improving the sustainability of aquaculture and the performance of salmon production in Europe.

In recognition of its R&D work and innovative capacity, Natac has recently been granted funding from the European program SME Instrument Phase 2. This program is highly competitive, funding only 3 out of 100 applicant companies, and is awarded to the most innovative companies in Europe. This European seal of excellence consolidates the company’s image as highly innovative on an international level.

The AQUOLIVE project by Natac has a duration of two years and will start in January 2019. Its main objective is to bring to market an innovative natural additive for the salmon aquaculture industry and has a budget of €2.5 million, which will allow them to validate the effectiveness of this additive in experimental tests in a real environment.

AQUOLIVE is an innovative product obtained from the olive tree that improves the health of salmon grown in aquaculture farms. This improvement in fish health results in increased production, improved animal welfare, and an increase in the quality of salmon meat intended for human consumption. The raw material base for AQUOLIVE production comes from olive tree biomass, so while improving salmon health, it also adds value to a key industry in southern Europe, improving the sustainability of the entire value chain.
