With the presentation of the new incubators and the recognition of the promising winners, the FPCM thus celebrated the arrival of the needed rains.

FPCM Connect XII: Green Economy, AI and Neurobiology

The day began with the FPCM Connect XII, the Park’s periodic meeting in which to learn first-hand about the new incubated companies. The event opened with an institutional welcome Mariano Fernández, financial and organizational director of the FPCM. Carmen Gilabert, head of communication and institutional relations of the Park, then summarised the services of the EY.

After this introduction, three of the companies recently incubated in the Park were presented. The first was Drage&Mate (D&M), through its CEO Amalio Garrido. Committed to sustainability and a greener industry, D&M has developed two products for the energy transition. On the one hand, METALIQ® generates pure hydrogen on site for energy purposes. On the other hand, DECO2 chemically capturesCO2 and obtains green by-products of high value for industry.

This was followed by the presentation of Empirical Advances, by the head of the laboratory Angélica Martín. This company creates state-of-the-art biomaterials from waste from the agri-food industry. To do this, they use processes such as hydrothermal carbonization, which allows organic compounds – waste – to be converted into structural carbons – such as biographene, biopolymers, or biocarbons.

This part of the day was closed by Ernesto Ares, head of administration at Ever3. This incubator has created an AI algorithm that allows, with the support of advances in neurobiology and applied psychology, to know the variables that allow people to choose to stay in a company. Ever3 has recently inaugurated its laboratories in the Park, which are named after the Prince of Asturias Award winner Giacomo Rizzolatti.

Presentation of the I Health to Market Awards (H2M)

After the XII Connect came the most festive part of the day, with the presentation of the I H2M Awards. David Arbelo, head of projects at the house, began by contextualizing the awards in the mission and activities of the FPCM. Joan Grasas, entrepreneur lead of EIT Health Spain, then detailed the role of this entity. Grasas stressed EIT Health’s objective of responding to the major health challenges facing the EU through the large network that makes it up. To do this, he explained some of the main programs of the network, such as Bridgehead, Catapult or GoldTrack.

It was then the turn of the award-winning companies in this first edition. In the category of more than three years, the winner was Spika Tech for its VR Cardio project to detect and stop cardiac arrhythmias. Carlos Zúñiga, CEO of the company, collected the award and warmly expressed his gratitude throughout his speech.

In turn, in the category of companies less than three years old, there were two winners: Inrobics and Nanological. The former offers rehabilitation solutions based on social robotics and AI, as Fernando Fernández, CSO of the company, briefly explained. The second, a spin-off of the CSIC and incubated in the Park, has developed a device for the rapid detection of bacteria to diagnose sepsis, as summarized by its CEO, Blanca Caballero.
