El consejero de Educación de la Comunidad de Madrid visita las instalaciones de la Fundación Parque Científico de Madrid

The Minister of Education, Science and Universities of the Community of Madrid, Emilio Viciana, visited the FPCM business incubator today. Viciana has made the visit as a patron, as the Community of Madrid has been the patron entity of the FPCM since 2022. The Minister was accompanied by the Director General of Research and Technological Innovation, Marina Villegas, and the Director of the Madri+d Foundation. The three have thus been able to learn about the activity of the Park and several of the incubated companies. Specifically, they have met the companies Biohope, Lifesome Therapeutics, Digital Earth Solutions and Orbital Paradigm.

The ideal ecsosystem

In its 23 years of history, the FPCM has incubated nearly 350 companies, of which 2 out of 3 prosper and 89% survive the first three years of life. In fact, the FPCM is one of the most active business incubators in the Madrid region, and is home to 76 leading companies in the scientific-technological field. During the visit, the general director of the FPCM, Marta del Castillo Vázquez, stressed this role of the Park, explaining its mission and activity indicators. According to del Castillo, “the Madrid Science Park is the ideal ecosystem to promote scientific-technological business innovation. From the Park we offer support with excellent infrastructures and value-added services at key times to ensure the viability of disruptive companies and their impact on the social fabric”.

“The regional executive encourages the development of innovative business initiatives that require the use of technologies or knowledge developed thanks to research generated by organizations domiciled in the Community of Madrid. The aim is for the business strategy of these startups to be based on the intensive use of the technology developed in the region,” explained Viciana.

A unique park in Spain

The PCM is the only Spanish Park promoted by two public universities: the UAM and the UCM. Since its inception in 2001, the PCM has managed to position itself as a leader in supporting scientific-technological entrepreneurship. It is also a multisectoral park that covers all areas. The most represented are biotechnology (43%) and ICT (40%), although there are also companies in the environment and renewable energy, nanotechnology, new materials and engineering. In addition, the Park offers genomics scientific services to more than 50 research centers, hospitals, universities and companies every year. Also noteworthy is his participation in the EEN, ESA BIC Comunidad de Madrid and HealthStart Madrid programmes, coordinated by the Madri+d Foundation
