The Madrid Science Park sponsors the HealthStart program to support entrepreneurial healthcare professionals

With the motto “From hospital to market, from need to solution, from idea to society“, the Fundación para el Conocimiento madri+d and the Platform for Innovation in Medical and Health Technologies (ITEMAS) launch the HealthStart program.programa-healthstart

A program that aims to help doctors, researchers and healthcare personnel from hospitals in the Community of Madrid who have identified an unresolved medical need and propose innovative solutions that can be converted into technology-based companies.

To achieve this, they need managers and technologists who want to be part of a mixed team with healthcare professionals to drive a start-up in the field of health technologies.

Selection of innovative projects and formation of management teams
In this first edition, twenty projects have participated, channeled through the Health Research Institutes of the Gregorio Marañón, La Paz, La Princesa, 12 de Octubre and Ramón y Cajal hospitals in the Community of Madrid. The ten selected projects belong to all areas of clinical care: digital health, medical devices, diagnostics and medical services.

With the selection of the 10 finalist clinical projects of the HealthStart program, the recruitment of managers interested in submitting their candidacy for one or more of the proposed innovative ideas begins (Profile registration until February 12). From this selection, tandems will be created consisting of the clinical promoter of the idea and a professional from the world of economics, management or technology, according to the needs of each project.

Each team will enjoy a comprehensive business management training program focused on the healthcare sector that will allow them to design an initial business plan. Investors and collaborators will be incorporated to support the teams and may invest in and/or co-develop those projects that fit their corporate strategic approach or project portfolio.

Business acceleration and market launch
The most mature projects will move to an acceleration phase where they will benefit from support in the form of infrastructure and resources, cash grants, international travel grants to Boston sponsored by Madrid-MIT– M+VISION, specialized professional services (incubation, patentability reports, technological and legal advice, etc.), offered by the Madrid Science Park, Carlos III University Science Park, Rousaud Costas Durán, Pons Patents and Trademarks, and the madri+d Mentor Network.

At the end of the process, the creation of companies will be facilitated and, in some cases, the search for investors through the celebration of a madri+d Investment Forum.

The winning team will enjoy a six-month stay at the scientific-technological business incubator that the Madrid Science Park manages at the UAM+CSIC International Excellence Campus in Cantoblanco. During their stay, they will have a team of business development experts at their service and comprehensive facilities where they can grow their business project.
