Last Friday, February 21 , the I MxI Race, We move for innovation was held with great success on the Cantoblanco campus. In its first edition, this recreational and sporting event brought together more than 150 participants, 50% more than the initial stipulated quota. The event was attended by students and staff from the UAM, researchers from the CSIC-UAM centers on campus and members of the companies incubated in the Madrid Science Park. And, of course, workers from the three organizing entities: IOT Lenses, ClarkeModet and the Madrid Science Park Foundation (FPCM). Together they enjoyed a spring weather to run or walk the circuit in its two modalities, 2.5 and 5 km.

Festive atmosphere

There was expectation among the participants to know how the event would develop. In fact, for many it was the first time they took part in a popular race. Doubts, reunions, photos, laughter and curiosity filled the exit space, as the registered people arrived. The experience in this type of event of the technical management, which offered “instructions for beginners”, dispelled the questions. After the countdown, all that remained was for each person to enjoy the tour at their own pace.

And so it was. There was applause, there was more laughter, there was sweating, there was camaraderie and even some suffering along the route, where the occasional slope was a little indigestible. But nothing serious. The festive atmosphere, the excitement of the first time and the team spirit won out on the street. On arrival, refreshments, more photos and a portion of R+D+i at the Werfen stand. And of course, applause for the first three women and the first three men of the 5 km modality.

Desire for more

All the people gathered – participants, organizers, support, security and cheerful public volunteers – continued to enjoy themselves in community and join forces around innovation until noon. Then, back to work or to start the weekend with a good dose of endorphins.

In short, a success of this I MxI Race in which all the people who, in one way or another, have made it possible and have enjoyed it, are responsible and participate. The general feeling is one of wanting to go for more and repeat. Are we going for the second edition?

About the I MxI team

In addition to the three organisers, the Innovation Race has had a winning team in R+D+i. The UAM and the Madrid City Council have been institutional collaborators of the event. As a sponsor of the race was Werfen, a leading corporation in biomedical solutions and products and supplier of the FPCM Genomics unit and various companies in the Park. Among these companies, the incubated Aora Health -specialized in nutraceuticals- and EvoEnzyme -focused on the development of enzymes on demand for multiple applications- have participated as private collaborators. In fact, the energy bars and the anti-aging product that Aora provided in the race bag to each participant were much commented on.

To complete this luxury line-up, the Innovation Race has been led by the Marathon Sports Association, an athletics club with more than 65 years of history and experts in the organisation of sporting events. With its technical team and volunteers, the club managed to make the whole event work like clockwork. Thank you very much!
