Scientific Mobility, an Enriching Opportunity in the Research Career

Postdoctoral stays, periods during the doctoral thesis, brief visits… there are many moments in a scientist’s research career where mobility to other Research Centers or R departments of companies represents a key element in their studies.

Aware of the interest that this topic arouses among the scientific community, we invited a dozen involved agents to talk about scientific mobility and share their views regarding the possible stages of a scientific career and the different alternatives to consider for its development.

Guided by the expert Pedro Aceituno, author of the ‘Innovacef’ report on scientific careers, we first reviewed the current state and expectations to improve scientific mobility in Spain.

From this general overview, the attendees of the conference were able to learn about the main professional opportunities available to scientists, both within and beyond our borders. To this end, the main international programs Innovation Associate H2020 and Marie Slodovska Curie were explored in depth with the help of National Contact Points, Jesús Rojo and Luis Guerraen.

As a specific example, the Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (CERU) explained the opportunities and conditions offered by the country and their work to create bridges between British and Spanish science to bring science to society.

To conclude, five companies associated with the Madrid Science Park – Innohealth Group, Synthelia, Natac, Ibercat and Albufera Energy Storage – shared their experiences firsthand. Informative and motivational talks that helped to understand how the mobility of researchers results in creative, productive and innovative synergies that enrich the entire scientific community, and therefore society.
