Science and Technology in Women is back in 2023!
One more year (and there are five) the Science and Technology in Women program returns to the Park in this academic year 2022 – 2023. On this occasion, the FPCM has organized three activities to promote scientific and technological vocations aimed at ESO students from any educational center in Madrid.
Talk-colloquium and contest on the exhibition “Women who changed the world”
On Wednesday, February 8, the FPCM offers two activities at the Park’s facilities. First, there will be a talk-colloquium with prominent women in scientific-technological entrepreneurship. In it, students will be able to learn about their trajectories and ask them their doubts and concerns about science, technology and professional careers.
The students will then participate in a competition around the exhibition “Women who changed the world”, which is shown in the entrance hall of the Park. Through this initiative, students will learn about various milestones of women scientists and technologists and will be able to win a prize.
The details of both activities can be consulted at this link.
“Challenges for Sustainable Development” Competition
The third activity is the “Challenges for Sustainable Development” contest. This contest seeks for students to present solutions to challenges related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth in the #Agenda2030 promoted by the United Nations General Assembly. These challenges are related to health and well-being, gender equality, affordable and clean energy, decent work, economic growth, climate action, etc.
Students from 1st to 4th year of ESO from schools in the Community of Madrid can send their video-proposal, before March 6, 2023, to the FPCM. The format and characteristics of the videos are detailed in the contest rules. The objective of the video must be one or more actions with which to contribute to the SDGs. These challenges relate to five areas: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships. This video clearly explains how to participate in the contest.
Once the deadline for receiving proposals has closed, the FPCM jury will meet to choose a finalist video. The FPCM will send this video to APTE before March 15, 2023. APTE will evaluate the proposals sent by the participating parks and will announce the winning proposal at the national level in April. The award will consist of a commemorative plaque, a STEAM-themed game for the group, and a book of notable women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics throughout history for each member.
A program of great importance
The Science and Technology in Women program has the participation of 20 science and technology parks throughout Spain and is coordinated by the Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE). In addition to the competition, the programme has developed various materials for the promotion of vocations, which can be downloaded here.
