Microomics is in an expansion phase and is looking to expand its Bioinformatics team with the addition of a Statistical Analyst. Microomics is headquartered in Barcelona, at the Institut de Recerca de Sant Pau.

Microomics is a specialized company acting as a CRO in microbiome research. We apply metagenomics innovatively to answer both new and traditional questions. We work in health, human nutrition, and the agri-food sector, including animal and environmental-soil sectors. Our comprehensive expertise in molecular biology technologies, next-generation sequencing, and computational tools allows us to constantly innovate, adapting and developing techniques based on knowledge originated from research.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The selected candidate will play a transversal role within the interdisciplinary Bioinformatics team, taking a key role in activating and analyzing ongoing projects, with a special focus on statistical analysis. Their work will focus on both client-commissioned projects and internal R&D initiatives.

The main responsibility of the selected person will be to perform and advise on statistical analyses carried out in the department. They will also focus on:

  • Execution, development, and maintenance of pipelines for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis.
  • Analysis and interpretation of results, identification of technical issues, and proposing process improvements.
  • Participation in project delivery meetings with clients and providing technical follow-up according to their needs.
  • Maintenance of genomic, metagenomic, and transcriptomic databases.
  • Active participation in R&D projects carried out within the company.

 

REQUIREMENTS
  • Education in Bioinformatics or related fields (degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Mathematics, Biology, or Computer Science). A Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or specific training in statistics is a plus.
  • At least 1 year of verifiable experience in bioinformatics, preferably in statistical analysis applied to genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, or similar fields.
  • Programming skills in R, Bash, Python, or related languages are required. Knowledge of systems administration, database development and maintenance, metagenomic analysis, transcriptomic analysis, and machine learning will be positively valued.
  • High proficiency in both English and Spanish, spoken and written. Knowledge of Catalan is a plus.
  • High attention to detail, adherence to procedures, and quality control.
  • Ability to adapt to dynamic environments, make decisions, and resolve issues independently.
  • Effective communication skills, both with the team and other departments and clients.
