The Center for Entrepreneurial Initiatives (CIADE) of the Autonomous University of Madrid celebrated the 13th edition of its University Entrepreneur Award.
The Award includes an initial training phase for participants and a second phase where, with the help of specialists, they develop their Business Plan. This process is key in selecting the projects that are ultimately awarded.

This edition had 117 business ideas, 59 of which reached the final, and 9 companies were created.
The highest distinction on this occasion went to the biometric identification and payment service capable of accurately recognizing a person through hand veins and fingerprints, developed by the HandBe team.

In the same category, the Runner-up prize went to Auara Social Enterprise, which markets premium quality mineral water with a product sustainability model that allows them to reinvest all their profits in social projects.

 

In the rest of the categories:
Science and Technology (3M Foundation):

  • Winner: Universal Advances. High-Utility Systems Technology Company. Their first system is the Autonomous Water Purifier, which needs no electricity or chemical additives.
  • Runner-up: BlipApp. Unique patented technology project that redefines the interaction between the user and their presentation, controlled through a laser pointer.

 

Humanities and Social Sciences (ACS Foundation):

  • Winner: Dexinde. Inclusive sports project that seeks the integral development of people with different abilities and their social recognition through leisure.
  • Runner-up: Miradas Compartidas. Platform to connect leisure resources and demands for normative leisure for people with functional diversity or disabilities.

 

Social Entrepreneurship (KutxaBank Social Work):

  • Winner: Rafiki Hostel. Solidarity tourism hostel offering accommodation, volunteer programs, and tourist activities in Tanzania.
  • Runner-up: Co-Incidencias. Cultural platform sustained by and for the collective of emerging musicians in Madrid.

 

Madrid Science Park Accommodation:ciade-pcm-award

  • Winner: MedicSen. Design and development of a non-invasive artificial pancreas that solves the main problems associated with diabetes.
  • Runner-up: Animal Cloud. Collaborative economy software designed to improve the management of experimental animal use.

 

Madrid City Council Business Incubator Network Accommodation:

  • Winner: Infomix. First on-demand online television channel and audiovisual practice platform for university students.
  • Runner-up: Historia Nova. Project of cultural, tourist, and educational activities, oriented towards knowledge of the historical past through innovative teaching techniques.

 

At the award ceremony, Pablo Gasalla Muñoz, founding partner of Cube Ventures, gave the lecture “Congratulations, You’re Entrepreneuring”. Additionally, the event featured a speech by Arsenio Huergo, Vice President of the Social Council, and was closed by José M. Sanz, Rector of the UAM.

Awards with History:
The first edition of these awards was in 1998 and, since then, their celebration has maintained the same principle: to serve as a stimulus for new entrepreneurial initiatives among the university community (professors, researchers, staff, and students) of all Madrid universities.
In these 13 editions, nearly 1000 teams have participated and more than 120 companies have been created.
