Mission

Promote technology transfer, drive innovative scientific and technological entrepreneurship, enhance public-private collaboration in innovation, and contribute to strengthening the R&D&I ecosystem.

Vision

Establish FPCM as a key reference in the regional and national innovation ecosystem. Expand the culture of scientific and technological entrepreneurship at all levels of society. Transform the national R&D&I system into a cornerstone of the country’s social and economic development.

History

The Madrid Science Park is a non-profit foundation created on June 6, 2001 by the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) to promote innovative scientific and technological entrepreneurship and promote technology transfer.

Other trustees have joined this initiative since its inception: the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Madrid, Banco Santander and the Community of Madrid. Later, the City Council of Tres Cantos and the City Council of Madrid also joined.

The Park’s headquarters are initially established in Pavilion C of the UAM campus.

In 2004 it moved to the BP building in Tres Cantos and in 2006 to the Technology Park of the same municipality. Finally, in January 2010, the FPCM moved to its current headquarters, the CLAID building on the UAM+CSIC Campus of International Excellence.

During its history, the Park, as an incubator for scientific-technological based companies, has seen more than 320 companies develop. In addition, the Park has provided various scientific services to hundreds of research projects from multiple R+D+i institutions: Genomics, Fine Chemistry, Microanalysis of Materials, Proteomics and Industrial Biotransformations.

360º vision

The Madrid Science Park Foundation is located in Madrid, the capital, at the heart of the Community of Madrid, one of the 100 most innovative regions in Europe due to its R&D&I activities and impact. On an international scale, Madrid serves as the main gateway for entrepreneurship between Latin America and Europe. At the European level, Madrid stands out for its number of employees in R&D&I, its specialists in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and its public-private collaborations. Nationally, the Community of Madrid is one of the country’s most strongly innovative regions, being the Spanish region with the highest investment in R&D—both public and private—and the most employment linked to technology sectors. Regionally, the city of Madrid has become the leading innovation ecosystem, home to over 1,000 start-ups primarily specializing in fintech, proptech, ICT, and healthcare, as well as several technology hubs. Additionally, Tres Cantos and Alcobendas, neighboring the FPCM, are the municipalities with the highest percentage of technology-related employment in the country. Within this context, the FPCM fosters innovative scientific and technological entrepreneurship across all its areas, backed by leading R&D&I partners and operating from the heart of the International Excellence Campuses (UAM+CSIC and UCM Moncloa). Driven by this broad-based approach, the FPCM is positioned at the core of Madrid’s innovation ecosystem, recognized as the No.1 incubator/accelerator for scientific and technological start-ups and one of the top ten in the region.

The FPCM also aligns with regional ecosystem trends by focusing on two key areas: ICT and the field of Health, Biotechnology, and Agri-Food, where the Foundation stands out for its laboratory companies and the Genomics Platform.

FPCM’s activities are aligned with national and regional strategies and plans for economy, competitiveness, industry, and R&D&I to drive deep tech entrepreneurship, enhance public-private collaboration, foster the development of disruptive projects and technologies, promote their transfer to the market and society, and attract knowledge-based talent. In short, contributing to strengthening the innovation ecosystem to position the R&D&I system as a key driver of the country’s development.
