Eye4Sky Technologies, the first spin-off of the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) it joins the Madrid Science Park within the ESA BIC program to begin industrializing its manufacture. It is a company of Deep Tech dedicated to developing polarization modulators based on liquid crystals (LCVR). After being established as a company in 2022, its main objective is now to expand the fields of application of its technology and start its commercialization in an agile way.

Polarization Modulators: Innovation, Versatility and Precision for Multiple Applications

Eye4Sky Technologies Develop Liquid Crystal-Based Polarization Modulators
Eye4Sky Technologies manufactures polarization modulators based on liquid crystals.

This spin-off It specializes in the manufacture of polarization modulators that use liquid delay crystals. This technology has been developed within the framework of the Solar Orbiter mission, led by the ESA in collaboration with NASA. The polarization of light It’s the fAn enomen by which light waves are restricted to a direction of vibration. It is therefore a property of waves that describes the orientation of their oscillations.

Eye4Sky’s innovative technology is mainly intended for space applications, such as quantum communications, astrophysics or quantum clocks, although they are also applicable at the terrestrial level. LCRVs allow the analysis of polarized light, which makes it possible to characterize atmospheric aerosol particles or even monitor the health and plant composition of forests.

Same function with smaller mass and size

Eye4Sky specializes in software and hardware development that allow new polarimetric imaging systems. They also seek to monitor, compensate and control the polarization of light. Its mission is to offer space-tolerant polarization modulators with a smaller size and weight, without sacrificing their technological base. These small satellites are devices that fit in one hand, little larger than a spectacle lens and weighing about 200 grams. In addition to their versatility, polarization modulators allow reliable and accurate data to be obtained.

This type of technology is intended to be used in two types of missions. On the one hand, in traditional missions led by large public agencies – such as ESA or NASA. On the other hand, in the so-called New Space missions, which are those developed by private and emerging aerospace companies. Eye4Sky is set itself the challenge of expanding into large launchers, such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX, for example.

The company presents a space-qualified product with mature technology suitable for market launch. Eye4Sky Technologies showcases promising technology, committed to providing innovative products that meet the needs of the aerospace industry.

We can’t wait to see them grow and learn from them at the Madrid Science Park!
