The ITH arose from an idea: to converge the complementary knowledge of a growing number of pharmacologists towards a necessarily multidisciplinary activity: research, development, and innovation in the vast field of medication.
It was the need to create a Research Institute that would coordinate and enhance the activities of the UAM, the University Hospitals of La Paz and La Princesa, as well as collaborations with external groups of researchers from other universities, research centers, and pharmaceutical companies (national and foreign), which led to the approval of the creation of the ‘Teófilo Hernando’ Institute for Drug R by the UAM’s Governing Board in 2007.
