DIH Bio launches a plan to promote digital transformation in the area of health

On March 16, the Board of Directors of DIH Bio, of which the FPCM is a member, met. The objective of the meeting was to develop a plan that promotes the digitalization of SMEs and public administrations in the Health and Biosciences sector. This plan encourages the adoption of high-impact digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or high-performance computing.

A powerful public-private partnership

DIH Bio is a public-private consortium, coordinated by the UAM, which incorporates all the relevant actors in Health and Digital Technologies of the Quadruple Helix open innovation model. These four axes are: industry, academia, civil society and public authorities. The objective of this consortium is to promote, through digital technologies, strategic areas of great impact on people’s lives, such as Biosciences, Biotechnology and Health.

To achieve this objective, DIH Bio will make available to SMEs and Public Administrations a catalogue of services and infrastructures based on the capacities of its partners. This catalog will provide companies with the opportunity to “try before investing” in their digital transformation journey. It will also allow them to receive support in the search for financing. On the other hand, it will promote training and the development of digital skills through specific courses. These courses include entrepreneurship programs for the creation of knowledge-based start-ups in the area of Digital Health. A significant effort will also be made in the dissemination and communication of the latest trends in digital technologies applied to Health and Biosciences, through events, conferences or publication of reports.

Under the European and regional umbrella

DIH Bio belongs to the European Commission’s list of Digital Innovation Hubs . It is also one of the official candidates designated by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism to become an EDIH (European Digital Innovation Hub). Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH) are a key initiative of the European Commission’s Digital Europe Programme (DEP) to boost the digitalisation of SMEs and Public Administrations.

This initiative is also co-financed by the Autonomous Community of Madrid in its Regional Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialisation (RIS3), through the Technological Innovation Liaison Entities programme.

In addition, DIH Bio has established agreements with 20 European DIHs to constitute an international corridor focused on digital health. This corridor will allow relations to be established with other countries for the development of joint initiatives.
