The incubated company Biohope has received the Innovation Champion Award 2024 from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The award was presented to its CEO, Isabel Portero, on May 13 in Luxembourg, headquarters of the institution chaired by the former vice-president of the Government Nadia Calviño. The award ceremony took place within the framework of the EIB AdVenture Debt Summit.

Innovation Champion Award: a tall and fast

For Biohope, the Innovation Champion Award joins other awards recently won. In 2021, Portero was recognized among the leading women in Spanish entrepreneurship by the High Commissioner for Entrepreneurship. A year later , Biohope was the first Spanish company to win the Lyfebulb-Veloxis Innovation Challenge for its transformative role in organ transplantation. Now, with this prestigious European award, the biotech company dedicated to precision medicine receives a new boost.

Thanks to this award and EIB financing, the company consolidates its growth and internationalisation strategy. In addition to this support, there is also support from the InvestEU programme, from which they also receive funding.

Precision medicine to improve patients’ lives

Biohope was born in 2015 to apply biotechnology to precision medicine in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, particularly in transplants. With this objective, the company has developed its flagship product: the Immunobiogram©. It is an in vitro diagnosis from a patient’s blood sample that combines a kit and software. In it, the cells in the sample are stimulated to simulate the pathological stimulus that causes rejection in transplants and are subjected to immunosuppressants. By analysing the response to them, the software determines the most appropriate treatment for each patient.

We are convinced that this great achievement of Biohope will soon be just one more milestone in its outstanding journey to improve the lives of many patients. Our most sincere congratulations to the entire team for this recognition and for your daily work.
