Last Friday, May 27, we hosted the latest edition of the themed #cafebiotec of the Association of Biotechnology Communicators. On this occasion, the topic to be discussed was whether society knows the scope and possibilities offered by preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). <\/p>\n

PGD offers parents who are carriers of a serious hereditary disease an alternative for conceiving a healthy baby. Additionally, it is also applied to improve pregnancy rates in couples with a high risk of producing embryos with chromosomal abnormalities. However, according to experts, these future parents are unaware of this scientific advance in a high percentage of cases. <\/p>\n
Among the companies installed in the Park, we have a national reference in these techniques, Geniality. Its scientific director, Esther Fern\u00e1ndez, participated as an expert in the cafebiotec, sharing her experience of more than twenty years. Additionally, among the speakers was Javier Suela, secretary of the Spanish Association of Prenatal Genetic Diagnosis and technical director at Nimgenetics, another company born under the umbrella of the PCM.<\/p>\n
Guided by the invited experts, about twenty attendees reflected on how society is informed about these types of advances and how new techniques of preventive and personalized medicine are being implemented in the national health system.<\/p>\n
